Bishop Alan Williams inspired staff and pupils during his visit to our school last week.

22 September 2016 (by adminuser)

The bishop was invited to SSPP to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the school on its current site, along with governors and former governor Kay Savage, whose husband John had been instrumental in getting the school moved to Gordon Road.

During the day, Bishop Alan celebrated mass alongside Fr Andrew, who was also celebrating his 21st anniversary in the priesthood. He also blessed all the class crucifixes and our prayer room. After mass, the bishop spoke to the children about his role as a bishop and led a question and answer session. He was impressed by the pupils’ questions which ranged from enquiries about his family, hobbies and background to how he felt to be chosen as a bishop and if he had ever met the Pope. The bishop also told pupils about his love of hiking and spoke fondly about his rather mischievous pet cat. During his talk, he encouraged pupils to work hard and always try to be the best they can possibly be. Afterwards, he enjoyed a buffet lunch and a slice of anniversary cake.
