RSE
The Governors at SS Peter and Paul’s Catholic Primary School are seeking to update our Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) scheme of work, to the new revised scheme ‘A Journey in Love’ as instructed by the Diocese of Brentwood. We would like to take this opportunity to consult with parents and carers and invite your views on the new scheme of work.
‘A Journey in Love’ has been written as a progressive scheme of work that supports our updated schemes of work for RE and PSHE. The revised ‘A Journey in Love’ focusses on friendship, family, community, relationships and spirituality and supports the children’s development as young Catholics in the 21st century. The content of the scheme of work is age appropriate and will be taught with sensitivity, taking into account the children’s level of maturity in regard to the delivery of lessons.
‘A Journey in Love’ guide for parents is available below. This is held on the school website, under the Parents/RSE tab. Teaching materials are also available to view in school.
Comments from parents and carers have been collated.
The survey took place between 1st October to 21st October 2021.
Parents cannot opt-out of new statutory relationships education in primary schools. For of this reason, we are asking all parents and carers to look at the ‘Journey In Love’ RSE programme as part of a consultation process.
From September 2020, it is a statutory requirement that all schools in England and Wales are teaching Relationship and Sex Education as a fundamental part of the curriculum. As part of implementing the RSE curriculum, schools must consult with the children, parents, staff and governors to ensure there is a general consensus on our approaches to policy and the curriculum content. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.chment_data/file/907638/RSE_primary_schools_guide_for_parents.pdf
