March

Article 17

Every child has the right to reliable information from the mass media.

March sees us focus on the right for all children to have access to appropriate information.  Children have the right to get information that is important to their health and well-being. Governments should encourage mass media – radio, television, newspapers and Internet content sources – to provide information that children can understand and to not promote materials that could harm children. Mass media should particularly be encouraged to supply information in languages that minority and indigenous children can understand. Children should also have access to children’s books.

As a school, we recognise we have the obligation to recognise and promote that all those who have responsibility for bringing up children should take measures to ensure that all media sources are suitable for their age.  We teach this message through our curriculum and in designated online-safety lessons.
